| Dear Rev. Know-It-All,
I just read that the Pope excommunicated
six nuns for heresy just because they are members of a group that follows
a Canadian mystic, Marie Paul Giguere. I just read your article about private
revelations and am confused.
Please explain,
Wanda Foldem
Dear Wanda,
If you read St. Paul’s first letter to
the Corinthians, the 13th chapter you will read that “we
prophesy imperfectly, we know imperfectly.” Even the
best private revelation is partly human. It is never 100% from the Lord,
and in my experience, more often than not it is mostly the opinion of the
person delivering the prophetic word. That is one of the reasons that God
gave us the teaching authority of the church. It helps us hear what is
authentically from God and what is not.
If it isn't perfect, you may well ask,
why bother with all this charismatic, Pentecostal, prophetic nonsense?
Well that’s precisely the point. You don’t have to bother with it.
It’s private revelation. If it helps you draw closer to the Lord, fine,
provided it stays close to the teaching authority of the church.
To put it briefly, Madame Giguere has revealed
that Mary is fully divine, and that she is the reincarnation of Mary, our
Blessed Mother and subsequently, she (Madame Giguere) being the same as
Mary, is divine. This is not exactly Catholic Doctrine. You are welcome
to believe it, this being a free country, but you are not welcome to believe
it and have the Pope confirm that you are Catholic, even if you are a nun
from Arkansas.
Quite sincerely,
Rev. Know-It-All
