| Dear Rev. Know-It-All
I was watching CNN News last week and was
thoroughly shocked when they announced that Dumbledore, the head wizard
of Hogwarts, Harry Potter’s alma mater, was not normal in his, how shall
I put this delicately, "amorous preferences." Can this be true?
Sincerely,
Eliza Lotte

Dear Eliza,
Get a grip.
This reminds me of the controversy regarding
the preferences of one of the Teletubbies a few years back. My reaction
then was that a Teletubby is not real. The nation was thrown into a dither
about the possible vices of a cartoon character.
Here we go again. Teletubbies are not real.
Harry Potter is not real. They are fictional characters like elves and
gremlins and Paris Hilton.
If there is any strange "amorous preference,"
as you so nicely put it, it is in the fantasy life of Ms. J. K. Rowling.
When the Harry Potter nonsense began, I
didn't take it very seriously, even though some of my co-religionists were
mightily exorcised over the whole issue. I assumed that it would just go
away. I still believe it will just go away, but so will western culture
at this rate.
I read the news clip and apparently Ms.
Rowling, the authoress of the Harry Potter books, revealed at a lecture
that there was something different about Dumbledore the head wizard and
protecting father figure of the Hogwarts school. When she "outed" Dumbledore
her audience applauded.
God loves everyone He has made, no matter
what disorder or sin lies hidden within us. Still, when did an abnormal
preference make one heroic?
I did not think that the Harry Potter books
were a danger to faith and morals, but now it is clear that they are. It
strikes me as sad that the fantasies of childhood have been invaded by
the agenda of a group that grinds a relentless moral/political agenda.
You thought you were just buying your kids fun books that would help them
learn to read. Well, it appears that you bought them recruitment literature
for a dying culture, devoted to sterile, contraceptive relationships.
This whole flap has convinced me that the
Harry Potter books are, in fact, demonic. Let me explain the sense in which
they are demonic:
Wisdom 2:23-24 "For
God formed man to be imperishable. He made him the image of His own nature,
but by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who are
in his possession experience it."
Remember that the text to which this Bible
verse refers is Genesis 1:27 "God created man
in His image... male and female, He created them."
There is something in the love of man and
woman that uniquely reflects the very nature of God. As Pope John Paul
II said, "God is not like a family, God is a family."
God gave something to man and woman that
He did not share even with the angels. Angels do not reproduce. Jesus told
the Sadducees, "They shall be like angels in heaven,
neither giving nor taking in marriage." (Mark 12:25)
True, God creates the soul, but because
God gives the promise of resurrection of the body, and the body itself
is the temple of God, a man and a woman together create something that
is immortal. God did not share this privilege of creativity and reproduction
even with the angels, but with weak and sinful humanity.
What wondrous love! What can the devil
possibly envy in us? The demons, who are fallen angels are so much stronger
than we. They are immeasurably more intelligent and powerful than we are.
They are immortal spirits. But, they hate us because we have a privilege
they do not. We are the producers and caretakers of the children of God.
Something that they refused to be and never will be.
It would appear then, that the devil delights
in the creation of contraceptive relationships because he hates children.
He delights in the perversion of something as Godly and holy as marriage
and childbirth. He delights in the devouring of the newborn (Rev. 12:4)
He is pro-abortion because he hates children. The fewer children born the
better, as far as the demons are concerned.
C. S. Lewis points out that God gave us
the ability to have children because He wants to populate heaven. The enemy
will try to stop Him at every turn. I wonder how many children will be
led to experimentation by the example of the “good and wise” wizard,
Dumbledore, who is held up to them as a role model? How many will enter
into sterile relationships as the infernal kingdom chuckles with cynical
laughter.
The heartland of our civilization is dying
for want of children. Go to the little villages of Italy, Spain and France
which produced Michelangelo, Velasquez and Bramante. You will find
no children. At the current rate of reproduction, Italy will cease to exist
in 400 years, some say even less.
The land that was Italy will probably be
filled by the Muslims from the south and if they are led by the religious
teachers who seem to have ascendancy in the Islamic world at the current
time, Sharia law will demand that the grapevines be uprooted, as they were
in the Holy Land. The Pieta and Michelangelo's David will be sledge hammered
as were the Buddhas of Bamiyan
in Afghanistan. The churches will be whitewashed or destroyed as was the
original Church of
the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by order of the Fatamid Caliph al-Hakim
in 1009.
If we refuse to give life, then we will
be replaced by those who still believe in life.
Egypt, Palestine, Libya, Turkey and Tunisia
were once the heartlands of Christianity. When they lost their way in a
welter of politics and in-Church bickering, the heart of Christendom moved
to Europe.
It seems that Mother Church is moving again.
As the Judaeo-Christian civilization of Europe is trashed by those who
have rejected God and His children, I can almost hear the devil roaring
with laughter.
We think we are sophisticated.
We are merely sterile.
Sincerely,
Rev. Know-It-All
